Diagnostic Assessments
The diagnostic assessment service provided at Reading Now consists of the administration of a variety of assessment measures to determine your child’s strengths and weaknesses as a reader. The diagnostic assessment is administered one on one with your child by a certified, trained educational professional. This diagnostic assessment provides data regarding your child’s reading skills in the areas of vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, phonics and phonemic awareness.
Reading Tutoring
After the initial screening and conference, parents have the opportunity to register their child for hour-long small group tutoring sessions held twice a week. We address specific reading skills and strategies, using a variety of materials and activities to focus on each student’s reading instructional needs. Activities, terminology, reading strategies and skills are based on Scientifically Based Reading Research in the field of reading, address the Pennsylvania Academic Reading Standards, and are highly correlated to what students do in school. This link allows your child to make connections, and easily transfer the reading skills and strategies learned in the tutoring session to their reading work at school, which promotes more positive results for students’ reading achievement.
Parent Workshops
We want YOU to understand specifically what strategies and teaching methods are used at Reading Now! When your child is in his/her tutoring session, you will be able to simultaneously attend a parent workshop as well, located in the same office. Best of all, these workshops are FREE! We even require you to attend at least 2 sessions, because our goal is to help you understand the most effective ways you can help your child become a strong, independent reader. Our workshops set us apart from anyone else in the reading tutoring field!
Babygarten
Here is our special program for Moxie Moms! We have licensed the Babygarten program and brought it to Erie!
Babygarten is an educational curriculum for caregivers and their babies from birth to toddlerhood, which focuses on classes to teach the parents how and why to read to babies. The classes feature songs, rhymes and projects that highlight overall development of infants with special emphasis on language acquisition and pre-literacy skills.
Babygarten is much more than a play group! Infants and their caregivers will share nursery rhymes, songs, and books, but also get a chance to make fun projects that demonstrate your babies' developmental milestones - usually a homemade toy or a baby book item. Many projects and activities will emphasize the importance of reading to babies, AND parents will learn how to do this most effectively. Each instructor will also share insight about infant development and learning. The class concludes with a free play period.
Babygarten classes run in seasonal 6 week sessions, meeting once a week. At Reading Now, the Babygarten program will run the following sessions:
Tuesday 10:00am - 11:00 am
Tuesday 11:00am - 12:00 pm
Saturday 9:00am - 10:00 am
FALL 2 six week sessions
WINTER 1 six week session
SPRING 1 six week session
SUMMER 1 six week session

Act 48 Approved Training
Reading Now, LLC is an approved Act 48 provider for teacher professional development. Our facility can host teacher workshops for up to 15 teachers a session. A variety of workshops are offered monthly in the areas of Scientifically Based Reading Research (SBRR), instructional practices, working with parents, and effective schools initiatives.
