My
favorite time of the day is bedtime--cozying up with my kids in bed and
reading books. During the day, I love being out and about and doing
something different each day. For some reason, the kids get along MUCH
better if we're out of the house.
My favorites are:
- Exercising with my kids in the stroller
- Going to indoor-jumping places like Pump It Up
- Taking family walks around the neighborhood
- Meeting friends for lunch
-
Participating in Mommy & Me classes, painting pottery, playing
indoor golf, going to matinees, visiting the library, feeding the ducks
and fish at the park, etc., etc., etc.
My mommy strategy . . .
After
I had my second child, I learned to just take things in stride. Life
doesn't always work out as planned. So what if Bryant eats the finger
paints instead of creating a masterpiece? So what if it takes us an
extra 15 minutes to get out of the house in the morning so Madison can
find her favorite pink dress? So what if we go through a drive-thru for
lunch two days in a row? In the end, all that matters is that my kids
know they are loved.
Before I was a mom . . .
In
my previous life, I was a middle school English teacher. I am
originally from Kansas, but I taught in Louisiana, Indiana, and
Massachusetts before having Madison five years ago. The most important
thing I realized during my teaching stint across the country is that
all kids really are the same, no matter socio-economic level, race,
family background, or academic standing. Kids just need to know that
they matter and that you really do care about them. Once you establish
that, you can teach 'em anything-from the symbolism in Oliver Twist to how to write an essay, all while having fun in the process!
After
Madison entered our lives, I took time off from teaching, but I dappled
in tutoring, leading parent-education seminars, and hosting
teacher-training workshops. I LOVE being a stay-at-home mom, but I also
feel the need to contribute to society on a broader scale, which is why
being a Moxie Moms Area Manager is a perfect role for me at this point
in my life.
I
look forward to hearing from you or meeting you at a Moxie Moms event.
